Week 9

Our music is still growing!
I was very pleased with how some of the students performed at whanau time with the song "Is it Love" that we have been learning.  Hopefully next time we will be able to sing without the vocal track.
We are still making music on Garage Band - Luke is inspiring us all.

He has explained to us this week that he would like to be a DJ later in life, like his flatmate and he enjoys listening to Techno / Trance music like DJFresh mixes.  Here is an example of Lukes compositions for you to listen to.

Recorders are still going and we are expanding our repertoire of notes.  Some of us can already play "Mary had a little Lamb" without the squeaks.  Practice, Practice, Practice.  Maybe we might be ready to perform something at a later whanau time.

While some students are learning to play the recorder, others are exploring garage band.  Here are two pieces that have been composed using this program that the students would like to share.

Using Garage band is a great tool to explore creating music, some students have not used the program at all and are experimenting with loops and instruments, others who are more confident are inspired by musicians that they know of who make similar tracks.  One of the biggest learning curve for many is that making music is not always that easy! There are many different elements that need to be considered.

We found a box of recorders hidden in the cupboard and decided that we would resurrect them!
Most of us have never played an instrument or read music.  So we are beginning to learn.  We are learning our first three notes B, A, G.  We also have to learn how to blow the recorder properly.  If you blow too hard you just make horrible squeaking noises!
Our first music sessions have been filled with singing.  We have been learning a song called 'Is it love' it is part of a series of songs on BBC about the story of Troy.  This is how it sounds on BBC, we are still working towards a performance of our own (Some of us are a bit nervous about this!)
